I have never heard of giving a baby meds before to help them sleep. I have a feeling thats not something a doc would recommend. Unfortunately all babies are different and may not start sleeping thru the night until later. I know its exhausting but I think you just have to be patient. Do you have a bedtime routine? I think that helps alot too as well as trying to get them to take good naps during the day so they are not over tired at night.

Ummmm....no, medicating your child when THEY ARE NOT ILL is abuse. Aren't you the same mom that was so adament about the fractured skull incident and not inflicting unsafe situations to your child?!?!?! WTF?!?! Is this a joke? This wouldn't be an accident, you are actually considering drugging your kid to sleep!! Why don't you take the first step in speaking to a medical professional and seeking guidance instead of considering doing something so drastic as to drugging your child unnecessarily?

I'm sorry to have flipped, just shocked that you would consider this. Here is a link that you might find helpful in making your decision: http://www.consumerreports.org/health/free-highlights/manage-your-health/benadryl_babies_sleep.htm

Why dont you try the ferber method, I know to each her own but I really dont think that is abuse at all. It is not a cold turkey CIO method but more gradual. I cant really give much more advice, not trying to brag but my Lo falls asleep on her own and sttn. I attribute it to the routine I've established and a little luck. I wasn't going to start drama but I did recognize that you were the same who posted on the fractured skull thread where I think you kinda were jumped on but I have to agree w/ PP that giving unnecessary meds wouldnt be a route I would take. Unfortunately you never know how your LO might react.

i thought we weren't supposed to give LO's under the age of 2 over the counter meds? that right there would be a red light that it might not be the safest thing to do. while i understand wanting to get a good nights sleep (my LO wakes up every hour on the hour and has done so for almost 3 months now) i don't think medicating a baby to get them to sleep is the best idea. i too have tried rocking, white noise, lullabies, nursing to sleep...none of that works for me either. but we have to remember our LO's are still quite young and a lot of babies do not sleep through the night until much later. its not uncommon for multiple wake ups each night. i am exhausted too from lack of sleep. i'm up every hour during the night, often i get back to bed just as beckett is waking up AGAIN. but i have to be patient and know that when he is ready he will STTN. what helped me a ton was reading about the may 07 mommy that unfortunately lost her little boy last month (as morbid as that sounds). but that was a wake up call for me to just be thankful for beckett no matter how little he sleeps or how much be cries. i'm sorry you are having to deal with these sleep issues. but give it some time and eventually your LO will outgrow this stage too!

Please please please don't give your child drugs to get her to sleep. Some babies just need to eat more. Could she be going through a growth spurt? How long has she been waking up at those intervals? A bedtime routine works wonders. I can't do CIO- tired it and it killed me- so I'm doing No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. It's taking some time, but even after 2 nights I'm seeing a little bit of improvement. Whatever you do talk to your doctor first.

Some babies just take longer to STTN. I know on my son's birthboard there were babies who didn't start STTN until close to a year. You just have to be patient and one day it will happen but medicating your baby is not the answer, I don't care what your mom says. How is giving benadryl going to help the overall problem... you will have to just giving it every night. Benadryl is allergies not to get babies to sleep. Have you talked to your Dr to see what he suggests? I know my friends Dr told her that some babies just don't STTN until sometime after a year (her baby just turrned a year and has only been STTN for a month or so). This is just a part of parenting... lack of sleep for us and we don't just medicate our babies so they will sleep. ETA: You think CIO is abuse but giving benadryl to a baby for the purpose of sleep isn't abuse?????? Edited 6:31 PM by _Natalie**

Here are a couple words of advice I received from our pediatrician recently. He said to make sure we weren't feeding our DD to sleep each night because then she gets used to eating to go to sleep and expects it every time she wakes up (I felt like I was nursing her all night long just to get her to go back to sleep in the middle of the night). Just since we started feeding her her last feeding at around 7:00, then doing our night time routine of putting on the pj's and reading a book, her sleep has gotten much better. She went from waking up several times a night to sleeping all the way through. She has been a pretty good night sleeper since she was born and had STTN consistenly since 3 months, but her sleep had regressed somewhat. Have you read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child?" He suggests that the earlier the bedtime, the better. So maybe you could push your LO's bedtime back from 11:00 a little each night. Good luck!

You have got to be kidding?!? You are seriously asking if it's okay to drug your child so YOU can get more sleep. That has got to be the most selfish & insane thing I have ever heard. Some babies aren't good sleepers. If you weren't willing to deal with all the ups & downs of parenthood you should have thought about that before becoming a mother! The other night my DD was up every hour from midnight until 5:30 AM when I had to get up to get ready for work. I was exhausted all day, but I dealt with it and just went to bed early the next night when she did. We all deal with sleep deprivation. Surely there has got to be friend or relative that can either spend the night at your house & get up with the baby or at least come during the day so you can take a nap. My suspicions are confirmed by mamadramauncensored.com. OP is a TROLL!!! No doubt she drugs her baby so that she can get on BBC and post ridiculous topics to get us riled up. Well THIS drama mama has outed you. GET A FLIPPIN' LIFE
